Truck carrying 700kg poppy straws seized in Palamu, two held

Daltonganj: The Palamu police on Friday evening seized a truck loaded with 700 kg of poppy straws stashed in 54 bags. The consignment was enroute to Muzaffarnagar in UP from Khunti in Jharkhand.
Police have arrested truck owner Shahzad, 35, and driver Faizan, 45. Both belong to Saharanpur district in UP. Assistant superintendent of police and SDPO Rishabh Garg said there was a tip about this truck playing on NH 75 on Friday evening. A team of Sadar police led by officer in-charge Gautam Kumar started to check vehicles when this truck was stopped.
Garg said 54 bags of poppy straw were camouflaged with 300 empty fruit crates.
A court remanded Shahzad and Faizan in judicial custody on Saturday, said Sadar police station OC Gautam Kumar.
