The Southern Command of the Army organised a seminar on ‘Conciliation and Role of Counsellors in Saving Marriages’ in Pune Saturday.

The seminar featured renowned experts in the field of relationship counselling and family law. Dr Aruna Kulkarni, founder-director of My Mind Matters, and senior advocate Vrishali Vaidya addressed the gathering of Southern Command officers and their spouses.

“Through an interactive session, the attendees learned valuable communication skills, conflict resolution strategies and other essential tools for building a strong, lasting partnership. The event was an opportunity to learn effective strategies for building and maintaining strong and healthy relationships amongst couples,” said an official.

Subeena Arora, the ex-officio president of the Southern Command Regional Chapter of Army Wives’ Welfare Association (AWWA), raised the issues faced by the couples in the Army owing to prolonged separation. She expressed her confidence that the strategies and insights received in the seminar will help resolve a number of cases in their initial stages, a press statement from the Southern Command said.

Notably, all major Armed Forces hospitals have well-equipped psychiatry wings capable of providing high-quality care and support.

Screening of personnel for any stress markers, psychological counselling by trained military psychological counsellors, and training of counsellors are undertaken regularly. Moreover, religious teachers, who are trained at the Institute of National Integration (INI) in Pune, augment the availability of psychological counsellors in Army units and provide requisite care in community settings. A telephone helpline, ‘Mansik Sahayata’, has been established for psychological counselling services at all Command Headquarters.
