Body found in Salt River could be kayaker who went missing on Easter
A man's body was found in Salt River on Saturday afternoon and authorities believe he is one of the two kayakers who went missing on the morning of April 9, according to the Phoenix Police Department.
On Monday, Phoenix police officials identified the two men who went missing as Ryan Jacobs and Shane Coates, both 38. Authorities found the body near the riverbank by 19th Avenue, close to where the kayakers went missing.
Police did not identify the body that was found.
The men were believed to be kayaking at about 10 a.m. when witnesses said they started yelling for help and were struggling in the water, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.
The Phoenix Fire Department sent a helicopter and technical rescuers to search for the men on April 9, but none of them were found until Saturday. The search for the other man was ongoing, police said.
Detectives were at the scene investigating. The Maricopa County Medical Examiner was expected to identify the body and determine the cause of death
