3.4 kg gold worth Rs 1.83 crore, gadgets seized at Chennai airport

CHENNAI: Customs officials at Chennai airport seized 3.4 kg gold worth 1.83 crore and electronic gadgets from four passengers.
According to officials, all four men arrived from Abu Dhabi on the same flight on Thursday.
The accused were found to be hiding gold chains in their undergarments and further interrogation revealed that they had hidden gold in paste form in rectum.
On extraction, the paste yielded 3.06 kg gold, said customs officials. Their baggage was checked, and mobile phones, refurbished laptops and cigarettes worth 25 lakh were seized. Two of the passengers were arrested and later released on bail. Further investigation is on said the customs official.
The seizures were made under the Customs Act 1962, according to a press release.
