Atiq Ahmed shootout: UP CM holds high-level meeting at Lucknow residence

Taking cognizance of the horrifying shootout of mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a high-level meeting with police officials at his Lucknow residence on April 16. Ordering a high-level inquiry in the matter, the UP CM instructed to form a three-member Judicial Commission (Judicial Inquiry Commission) over the matter. Atiq and his brother Ashraf Ahmed were shot dead on April 15 while they were being taken for a medical by the police. Soon after the incident, the state government geared up to maintain the situation in the state for which Section 144 has also been imposed in all the UP districts. Along with beefed up security in Prayagraj, the police are also carrying out flag marches at multiple location in UP. The police have arrested 3 persons in the matter and an intense investigation is underway. UP Finance Minister on the other hand, called the incident a ‘decision of nature’. Atiq’s son Asad Ahmed was gunned down on April 13 by the UP STF in Jhansi.
