KOLAR/BENGALURU: Former Congress president
Rahul Gandhi will on Sunday address a rally in Kolar - the Karnataka town where he had made the Modi surname remark in 2019 that led to his criminal-defamation conviction and disqualification as MP last month.
The rally was postponed twice: on April 5 and 9. This will be Rahul's second visit to the state after the announcement of assembly polls on May 10. In March, Rahul had visited the state to announce a monthly allowance for unemployed youths. Some fear Rahul may face protests on Sunday as Congress heavyweight and former CM Siddaramaiah was denied Kolar as a second seat. He has been fielded from Varuna in Mysuru district. After the Kolar rally, Rahul is scheduled to inaugurate an Indira Gandhi Bhavan in Bengaluru.
