Short circuit burns down wheat crop

Kanpur: Wheat crop cultivated over five ‘bighas’ of land turned into ash after a major fire broke out in Ishwariganj area in Binour town of district on Saturday.
Farmer Mahendra Singh Chauhan said the wheat crop on nearly five ‘bighas’ of land that was almost ready to be harvested, caught fire due to short circuit in an overhead high tension wire. People working in the fields saw smoke rising from near the electric pole and raised alarm, but by then the fire had taken a formidable form.
With the help of two fire engines, the fire was doused but about five ‘bighas’ of wheat crop burned in the fire. Lekhpal Binour Anand Pandey visited the spot and took stock of the damage and assured release of due compensation from the government.tnn
