Ayan Mukerji and Brahmastra

Director Ayan Mukerji is reportedly in talks with Jio Studios to plan a multi-film deal to make his Astraverse bigger. Apart from Brahmastra 2 and 3, he is planning to helm various character spin-offs for digital platforms and animated cartoon series for kids.

After the massive success of Brahmastra in 2022, Ayan Mukerji had recently taken to social media to announce that the sequels, Brahmastra Part Two: Dev and Brahmastra Part Three, will be released in December 2026 and December 2027 respectively, as he will be taking more time to perfect the script and make the films bigger and more ambitious.

Although, earlier this week, it was reported that Ayan might be taking his Astraverse out of Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. Neither Ayan nor Karan has commented on this report yet.

According to a media house, Disney, who was also one of the major producers of Brahmastra, has decided to give up the film rights. A source close to the development informed that Disney is in the mode of restructuring their content strategy in India and they have slowed down on acquisition for Disney+Hotstar too. They are also taking it easy on film production. After several meetings over the last few months, Disney has decided to take a back seat from the franchise.

Dinsey has now reportedly sold all Intellectual Property rights of the Brahmastra franchise to Ayan. The source added that’s when Ayan decided to take charge. Brahmastra is a franchise dear to him and he didn’t want to let it go of his hands. He has a brought outline ready for the future of his Astraverse and he, along with Ranbir Kapoor, is on the verge of clocking a mega multi-crore deal with Jio Studios for the Astraverse.

Ayan seems to have big dreams for the franchise and apart from the sequels, he plans to make spin-offs on other characters in the format of web series, and independent feature films. He also has an animated cartoon series planned for the kids in his 10-year plan for the franchise.

Ayan will be directing the films, but the spin-offs will be helmed by other filmmakers.  The spin-offs will include Nandi Astra, Pawan Astra, and Gaj Astra for the digital platform, whereas Jal Astra will be made for the big screen.

When the deal goes through, the Brahmastra will be produced by Jio Studios with Starlight Pictures and Astra Verse.
