Gurgaon: A police team seized a vehicle carrying around 250kg of meat near Badshapur early on Saturday. Police believe the meat is of buffalo, and have sent samples to a lab for testing.
“A police team on patrol got a tip-off that a Hyundai Venue headed towards Sohna was carrying more than 250kg of meat. The team asked the vehicle to stop, but the driver steered it around and started moving in the opposite direction. The police team chased the vehicle for almost 3km. The driver of the Venue lost control and slammed the brakes. The vehicle overturned under the impact,” said Subhash Boken, a spokesperson for police.
There were two persons in the car, he said, adding that they broke the windshield and fled.
When senior officials were informed, a team led by Sanjeev Balhara, the ACP (Sadar), reached the spot.
“We found some fake registration plates inside the vehicle and there were more than 2.5 quintals of meat. We have registered a case against two unidentified persons under relevant sections of the Animal Cruelty Act at Sadar police station. We have started an investigation into the case,” Boken added.
