Benniston scores a brace while Ali nets the other for Golden Eagles in their 3-0 win
Verna: FC Goa lost 3-0 to Dempo SC in the Goa Football Association’s Second Division League match played at the Nagoa Panchayat Ground in Verna, on Saturday.
Benniston Barretto scored a brace in the first half, while former FC Goa player Mohamed Ali added a third in the second half to seal the win for the Golden Eagles.
Dempo took the lead early in the 12th minute when Benniston Barreto found the back of the net. Despite having more possession, FC Goa failed to create many clear-cut chances, with a long-range effort from Shitaljit Singh being their only notable attempt.
The young Gaurs were made to pay for their inability to convert their possession into goals when Benniston doubled Dempo’s lead in the 36th minute, rounding the keeper before calmly slotting the ball into an empty net.
FC Goa had a misfortune early on in the second half as they received a a red card for Gourav Kankonkar in the 51st minute.
Taking the advantage of a man down Dempo Sports Club quickly extended their lead in the game in the 61st minute, Mohamed Ali scored the third goal for the Golden Eagles from a set piece.
Despite FC Goa’s best efforts, they failed to find the back of the net, and the match ended in a 3-0 defeat for them.
With this loss, the Gaurs remain on 4 points from their 6 games, while Dempo’s third win of the competition takes them to 11 points
from their 7 games.
The young Gaurs will be looking to bounce back from this defeat when they take on Velsao in the Reliance Foundation Development League on Sunday. FC Goa remains undefeated and on top of the Goa leg of the
league.
