‘Nahi le gaye to nahi gaye’ were Atiq’s last words

PRAYAGRAJ: Moments before their killing, Atiq and Ashraf were speaking to the media while being taken for a medical examination and their murder was captured on camera. Atiq was shot in the head from behind from pointblank range.
“Nahi le gaye to nahi gaye (they did not take us, so we did not go)” were Atiq's last words when asked what he had to say on not being taken to his son Asad’s funeral earlier in the day.
“Main baat ye hai ki Guddu Muslim... (main thing is that Guddu Muslim... )” were Ashraf ’s last words.
Both brothers were in the same handcuffs while being taken for the medical.
Atiq and Ashraf were accused in the murders of BSP MLA Raju Pal and Umesh Pal —the main witness in the Raju Pal murder case. Atiq and Ashraf were produced before the CJM Court in Prayagraj earlier this week which had remanded them to five-day police remand.
