Gurgaon adds 523 Covid cases, highest since August 18

GURGAON: The city reported 523 Covid cases on Saturday, a jump from 404 cases reported on the previous day. The last time the city had reported more than 500 cases was on August 18 - 554 cases.
The test positivity rate increased slightly - 15.8% on Saturday from 14.3% on the previous day. Now, the city has 1,941 active cases. The number of hospitalisations has also increased from 15 to 17 patients. The city also recorded 194 recoveries.
According to health department officials, 3,305 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours.
"The number of active cases is nearing 2,000, however, the hospitalisation numbers are low, which means the situation is not alarming. However, people should take all the precautions and adhere to Covid protocol. Masking in public places is important. We will have a discussion with the district administration over micro containment zones in the coming week," said Virender Yadav, Gurgaon's chief medical officer.
The city has added 2,954 cases alone so far in April. In August last year, 10,393 cases were reported in the city, 1,356 in September, and 709 Covid cases in October, which dropped to 210 in November, 67 in December, and subsequently to 47 cases in January earlier this year. The city added 46 new cases in February and 585 cases in March.
Deputy commissioner Nishant Yadav said that with the increase in the number of cases, the residents should keep their guard up. "We have already rolled out the directions making masks mandatory in a gathering of more than 100 people. Moreover, people should visit markets or crowded places only if required," he added.
Meanwhile, Haryana reported 874 new cases of Covid on Saturday. The highest number of cases were reported in Gurgaon (523) followed by Faridabad (124) and Karnal (39). Moreover, a Covid death was reported in Panchkula.
The total number of active cases in Haryana has increased to 3,715. According to the health bulletin, the test positivity rate in Haryana is 12.3%. A total of 6,168 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours in Haryana.
