PATNA: Season's first heatwave spell started in the state on Saturday with Patna Meteorological Centre declaring heatwave in Patna and Aurangabad districts. Aurangabad was the hottest place in the state on Saturday with a maximum temperature of 43 degrees C.
The meteorologists have issued a yellow warning for heatwave in parts of the state till April 20. According to the daily weather bulletin issued by Patna Meteorological Centre, yellow warning has been issued for heatwave conditions in south-central and south-eastern parts of the state on Sunday and Monday, and isolated places across the state on Tuesday and Wednesday.
India Meteorological Department (IMD), in its fortnightly summer and heatwave bulletin issued on April 13, stated that isolated heatwave conditions are likely over parts of Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha and north coastal Andhra Pradesh between April 20 and 26.
Asked about the heatwave conditions in the state, Ashish Kumar Singh, a scientist at Patna Meteorological Centre, said the prevailing spell of heatwave is likely to continue till April 20, following which a slight respite is expected due to marginal drop in temperature levels.
Meanwhile, scorching heat conditions are likely to be witnessed on most days in the next week as the Patna Meteorological Centre has predicted that maximum or daytime temperature is likely to rise by two to four notches over the next 4-5 days.
The Met office also stated in its daily bulletin that maximum temperature is likely to be in the range of 40-42 degrees C in north Bihar and 42-44 degrees C in southern parts of the state till April 19.
The India Meteorological Department on Saturday said the maximum temperature would be appreciably above normal at many places in Bihar. The maximum temperature at all three automatic weather stations (AWS) in Patna was recorded above 42 degrees C on Saturday, while the highest temperature reading was recorded at 43.9 degrees C at the AWS at Chhapra.
