HYDERABAD: Rachakonda police on Saturday busted an inter-state IPL betting racket and arrested three members of a gang, who have been actively organising betting during the ongoing IPL.
Police said the gang made 3 crore during this IPL season. Acting swiftly, cops ensured that 1.42 crore was frozen in their bank accounts. Main accused and two others are on the run. Rachakonda police commissioner DS Chauhan said sub-bookies E Jagadeesh and J Ashok Reddy and collection agent V Charan were arrested and three bookies - prime accused Vipul Monga of Haryana and M Suresh and P Srinivas Rao from Andhra Pradesh - are at large.
It was during the Sunrisers Hyderabad versus Kolkata Knight Riders match on Friday, police nabbed the accused trio at Vasavi Colony when they were accepting betting orders from punters over phone.
From the arrested accused, police seized 20 lakh. "Ashok Reddy is addicted to betting. In the last 12 years, he lost 100 crore. He is a son of former revenue divisional officer and has a debt of 10 crore. After being a punter himself, Ashok Reddy wanted to be a bookie after coming in touch with Vipul," police said.
Police said Jagadeesh is from Miryalguda and addicted to betting. "The accused trio has been operating betting through National Exchange app. They created user IDs and send passwords to clients. The accused persons wanted to make quick money and got in touch with punters," police said.
