JAMMU: The principal district & session judge of Udhampur on Saturday awarded death sentence to a 55-year-old man for murdering his mother over a property dispute in 2014.
After hearing the public prosecutor for UT of J&K and counsel for accused, considering the statements of the son and wife of the accused, and circumstantial evidence, the judge Haq Nawaz Zargar observed that it is clear the crime has been committed because the convict was demanding two kanal of land from the deceased Vaishno Devi besides asking her to reside with the other son Mulakh Raj. The deceased was 75 years old at the time of her murder.
The convict Jeet Singh, a resident of village Rassain in Udhampur district, was sentenced to death for the commission of offence under Section 302 of IPC.
Around 5.30pm on December 7, 2014, the local police station had learnt from reliable sources that Singh had murdered his mother with a sharp-edged weapon at his house.
