A large fire at the River Metals Recycling center in Newport is out, according to city officials.

The city reported earlier this morning that there was a fire in a sheet iron pile at the center at 1220 Licking Pike and that they were unaware of its source.

The fire department was on the scene in 10 minutes, city officials said, but fire suppression was not working.

Campbell County Dispatch Center reported a "garbage/refuse" fire at 1220 Licking Pike in Newport Saturday morning.

The Enquirer will update this story when more information becomes available.
