Rajkot: Five persons including a sarpanch’s brother were booked by Kuvadva Road police station for attacking a local
BJP worker in Bedla village on Rajkot’s outskirts and looting his revolver, cash, and jewellery.
The police booked Bharat Sorani, Ashok Sorani, Bachu, and two others under IPC sections including criminal conspiracy following a complaint filed by the victim Bhagvanji Jinjariya.
The accused intercepted the victim on Thursday evening and attacked him with an iron pipe, leaving his both legs fractured. They also robbed his licensed weapon, Rs 25,000 cash, and a gold chain of 20 grams.
Jinjariya had made several applications to the district administration and other authorities alleging corruption in government schemes by the sarpanch Ajay Sorani. It’s suspected that the accused harboured a grudge against him.
Jinjariya alleged that he was also threatened to withdraw his complaints. He submitted a complaint with the water supply department against the sarpanch alleging that new pipelines, cables, and motors provided by the government to provide drinking water to villagers were fitted at a farm of Sorani's relatives.
The victim said he was returning from a condolence meeting in a relative’s car and had stopped to answer nature’s call. The accused grabbed him from behind, snatched his revolver, and started thrashing him with a pipe.
He called up his son who shifted him to a hospital.
