Westbound 696 in Roseville reopens after fatal crash
Westbound Interstate 696 in Roseville was closed Saturday morning after a fatal crash at Gratiot Avenue but reopened shortly after 12:30 p.m.
Michigan State Police responded to the three-car crash at 9:10 a.m., according to a tweet from the agency.
The driver at fault was a 56-year-old man from Warren driving a pickup truck in the left lane, according to state police's preliminary investigation. The man was driving at a high rate of speed and could not stop before rear-ending a county road truck and trailer that was also in the left lane, state police said in a tweet.
The pickup truck came to a stop in the right lane and was struck by another vehicle, MSP said in a tweet. The driver, a Warren man, was pronounced dead at the scene.
State police say the investigation is continuing.
“This is an example of the worst thing that can happen when drivers can not control their vehicle when driving at excessive speeds” said MSP public information officer and First Lt. Mike Shaw. “While we are lucky no one else was hurt, there is now a family missing a loved one today. Just slow down!”
