Thane: The Thane crime branch arrested a member of the infamous Irani chain snatching syndicate and detected as many as eight cases of chain snatching and recovered 70 grams of gold. The accused has been identified as Salman Rajkapoor Asadullah Irani, 23, who was targeting women on the road and snatching their gold chain in different locations of Thane city. The accused would identify the target on the road and then would snatch the chain and flee away at high speed Vikas Ghodke, senior inspector of the Crime Unit -5 told that considering the number of chain snatching incidents reported in the city area, their unit worked on many leads and finally zeroed in on the accused. “During the probe it was found that he was along with his accomplice are involved in as many as eight crime registered with the police stations of Kapurbawdi, Naupada and Kalwa Police stations,” Ghodke informed. The police recovered 70 gms of the stolen golden jewellery and a motorbike used in the crime worth Rs. 4.5 lakh.
The official also said that the possibility of the accused involved in the similar cases of chain snatching in the limits of the Mumbai, Thane, and Navi Mumb cannot be ruled out and further investigation is underway.
