Sankat Mochan Fest: An evening of musical rendezvous

VARANASI: A musical night by renowned musicians Rama Vaidyanathan, Pt Ajay Pohankar, Pt Ronu Majumdar and others presented on the fourth night of the seven-day Sankat Mochan Music Festival, left the audience spell-bound, on Thursday.
The musical night began with a beautiful composition of Bharatnatyam by Rama Vaidyanathan from Delhi. Beginning with Shri Ram Vandana, she presented many compositions. She was followed by Thakur Chakrapani Singh from New York, who played on Kachhapi Veena. He was accompanied by Pt Samar Saha on Tabla.
Noted classical singer Pt Ajay Pohankar from Mumbai enthralled the audience with his singing. He was accompanied by Yashwant Vaishnav on tabla and Paromita Mukherjee on samvadini. In the next performance, Shakir Khan, the son and disciple of Ustad Shahid Parvez, enthralled the audience by playing the sitar. Yashwant Vaishnav accompanied him on tabla. Renowned flute player Pt Ronu Majumdar mesmerised the audience with his performance. Noted tabla player Pt Sanju Sahay accompanied him. He was followed by Pt Jasraj's disciple, Pt Neeraj Parikh, who presented a vocal recital, accompanied by Badrinarayan Pandit on tabla and Mohit Sahni on Samvadini. Shuddhsheel Chatterjee from Kolkata played santoor in the final performance of the fourth night. Young artist Gaurav Chakraborty accompanied him on the tabla and made the performance impressive by giving skilful accompaniment.
