Welcome to Sportstar’s LIVE coverage of Lucknow Super Giants vs Punjab Kings IPL 2023 match from Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
Curran to bowl the final over. Starts with a WIDE.
Arshdeep to Badoni. A tap to long on for one run. FOUR! Smart from Rahul. He uses the pace, leans back and guides the ball to the third man fence. Two runs on the next ball with a shot between mid-wicket and long on. OUT! Rahul is gone. He tries to pull it this delivery on the up. Completely messes the timing up and holes out to long on. Krishnappa Gowtham in the new batter. Pulled to fine leg for a single. A leg bye to end the over.
Curran to Rahul. A good start for the bowler. Wide outside off and Rahul cannot get to it. The second one is in the block hole and Rahul can only hit it to long off for one run. Ful and straight and Sroinis gets across and flicks it for one run. Too short and umpire signals WIDE. The fourth delivery is short and wide but Rahul mistimes the cut shot. Just one run.
Stoinis is unable to connect to a ball going down leg. Curran thinks there is an edge on this and reviews. OUT! The UltraEdge shows a spike as the ball passes the glove. Brilliant review.
Ayush Badoni start with a single. Five runs and a wicket. Excellent at the death from the Punjab captain.
Rabada to bowl. Rahul goes for a drive but misses his timing. Gets an inside edge and the batters are able to run two. Two singles on the next. SIX! Rahul gets it short and wide and he slashes at it. The ball beats the deep point fielder and lands past the ropes. Rabada tries a slower bouncer but the ball goes way over Rahul’s head. The LSG skipper reviews and gets a WIDE. The next delivery Rahul fires straight back at Rabada. He stops the boundary but concedes one run. 12 from the over as the last delivery yields no run for LSG.
Chahar to Rahul. Single to start. SIX! Stoinis lifts the ball over the bowler’s head. He presents a straight bat and the ball just about clears the ropes. Back-to-back SIXES! This one was short and Stoinis shows no mercy. A bottom edge on the next ball lands safe. He was again looking for a big heave. Another chance. This time it is Rahul and the ball lands just short of the short third fielder.
Rabada to Krunal. Chance! Rabada fires in a bouncer and Krunal wants to pull. He gets a top edge but the ball falls short off Chahar at deep third. Batters complete two runs.
OUT! That’s a wonderful catch from Shahrukh Khan. Krunal again pulls but finds the fielder this time. Momentum is taking Khan beyond the boundary. He uses great control to loop it into the air, step out, step back in, and eventually complete the catch.
Nicholas Pooran is back. A WIDE to welcome him. Punjab reviews the call and that’s a review wasted. OUT! Pooran is gone. He wants to pull seeing the length but ends up scooping it. Shahrukh is again called into action in the deep. He keeps his eyes on the ball and collects it. Big over for Punjab! Marcus Stoinis with three dots.
Nearly a run out! Chahar bowls a wide which Jitesh misses. Krunal thinks he can take a single but Rahul sends him back. Had Rabada’s throw been slightly better, Krunal would have been on his way back. FOUR. Rahul lofts Chahar over his head and brings up his fifty!
Beaten! Turn and bounce as Rahul is on his back foot looking to punch. A short ball to follow which Rahul puts to the deep square fielder for one run. Seven runs from the over.
Arshdeep is back. FOUR! Rahul pulls and manages to send the ball over the mid on fielder. An inside edge on the next delivery and Rahul picks up one run. Arshdeep foxes Krunal with a slower one. The batter was going for a pull and mistimes the shot. Still gets one run which brings up the 100 for LSG. Seven runs off the over.
Rahul Chahar with his first over. Six runs from it. Chahar with disciplined line in the first over. Kept is stump-to-stump throughout.
Raza continues. FOUR! He strays down leg and Pandya just nudges it along for four. It is also a no-ball. Free Hit for LSG! FOUR MORE. Short and wide and Krunal has all the room in the world to throw his arm at it. The ball takes an edge and flies over the third man region. A single to finish. 14 came off the over.
The spinners have pulled the momentum back for Punjab. But Sam Curran decides it’s time to bring pace back. He bowls to Rahul. FOUR! He pitches short and Rahul cuts it past the short third fielder. Another cut but this time the point fielder stops the ball. Can’t stop the one run, though. Krunal is beaten! A hint of movement away and Krunal is lucky to not get an edge on that.
FOUR! Curran bangs it in short and Krunal fires it to the fence with a pull. A single with a tap to mid off on the final delivery.
Raza to bowl his first over. Rahul uses his wrists to place the ball between long on and dee mid-wicket. Runs two before the ball is fielded. FOUR! Edged and runs to the fence. Rahul wanted to cut but there’s not enough room. A single on the next ball with a pull to short fine.
OUT! Raza gets Hooda. The delivery was short and Hooda wanted to pull. Misses the ball completely and gets trapped leg before. Krunal Pandya is the new batter and he is off the mark straight away with a single to long on. One run from Rahul to end the over.
Brar to continue. Rahull takes a single on the first delivery. Close! Mayers sees the length is on the shorter side and remains on the back foot. The ball turns the slightest bit and Mayers misses the heave on the leg side. Got an inside edge and onto the pad. OUT! Mayers is gone. Brar strikes. Mayers goes for a pull but gets caught as the ball holds up before coming on. He holes out to deep mid-wicket. Hooda is the new man. He plays an iside out shot on the final delivery and picks up two runs.
Kyle Mayers c Harpreet Singh b Harpreet Brar 29 (23b 1x4 3x6)
Another change in bowling. Matthew Short in. Rahul late cuts a good length ball but third man fields it. No run. The next spins in from the off stump line and Rahul content with tapping it to short mid-wicket. The first run of the over off the fourth delivery. Strayed it short and Rahul cuts it to deep cover. Mayers punches a good length ball turning away from him to deep cover for one run. In the slot and Rahul plays it to long on for a single. Just three runs from the over.
Harpreet Brar to bowl. FOUR. His first delivery is too short and Rahul punches it through extra cover for four runs. Single next to long on. Mayers drive looks good to reach the fence until the extra cover fielder stops it with a hand. Just one run. A small mix up. Rahul sends Mayers back and the West Indies batter has to dive to reach home safely. A single to long off by Rahul. Dot ball to end.
Rabada to Rahul. Single on the second delivery. Mayers decides to loft a full-length ball over mid off. Gets it from the toe-end and can only pick two. SIX! Short and Mayers uses all his force to pull it. Dot ball to end the over.
Sam Curran brings himself into the attack. Rahul picks a single on the first delivery. He goes full to Mayers and the batter blocks. A slower delivery which Mayers late cuts to third for one run. Rahul scurrys for a single on the fourth delivery. Mayers drive is fieled at mid off. Lucky to escape as the delivery was over pitched. SIX to end. Back of a length ball and Mayers stands still and punches the ball over the off side in field.
Kagiso Rabada into the attack. Hint of room and Mayers gets a thick outside-edge past third for FOUR. Quick bumper from length and Rahul is surprised with the steep bounce. Length outside off and Rahul nonchalantly pumps the ball over cover for SIX! A thick outside-edge to follow and Rahul retains strike with a single.
Arshdeep Singh into the attack. He starts with a wide before Rahul nudges the ball to mid-on for a quick single. Length from Arshdeep and Mayers slices the ball to point for one run. Arshdeep strays to the pads and Rahul flicks it down leg for FOUR.
Matt Short to open the bowling. Rahul’s off the mark with a single. Straighter delivery from Short and Mayers plays it back to the bowler. Short slides one in and Mayers sweeps the ball behind square for SIX. Flatter balls and Short bowls out with three dots.

Sam Curran: We haven’t done it this year. Thankfully, we’ve won a toss. Unfortunately, Dhawan picked up an injury in the last match. I don’t know how bad it is but hopefully he’s not out for too long. We’ve got a few changes. Two Indian batters coming and Raza is back. First time I’m here so we’ll see how it plays.
K.L. Rahul: Anything works. First game on this strip. It is exciting to challenge ourselves to perform in different conditions. Our first season here so we assess and modify.
Mathew Hayden: Looks like a tired wicket but its not, its fresh. Red Soil in use. Here (around the middle) it is green. Here (slightly fuller) it is dry. So a little innovation will come in handy today. Expect the ball to come on a bit more.
The word coming from the Punjab Kings camp is that Shikhar Dhawan will miss the contest today due to an injury. Sam Curran is going to lead the side in his absence.
