One-sided love or cheating? Man stabs 27-yr-old woman to death
Ludhiana: A 27-year-old woman was stabbed to death by a man, who had helped her financially to get bail for her husband lodged in Ludhiana central jail in a theft case. The woman along with her husband had gone to meet the accused in a park on Thursday evening, where the accused stabbed her multiple times before fleeing.
The victim was identified as Sarabjit Kaur, 26, who was married to Avtar Singh of Mangli Uchi village. The couple was living in Choti Mundian area at present. Acting on Avtar’s statements, Focal Point police lodged an FIR against accused Jatinder Singh of Dhindsa village.

In his complaint, Avtar said he was arrested by Khanna police in a theft case on February 14, after which he was lodged in the jail. Sarabjit often came to meet him in the jail. During that period, Jatinder came in Sarabjit’s contact as he too used to come to jail to meet someone.
“Meanwhile, Sarabjit sought help from Jatinder for my bail. Jatinder provided monetary help to Sarabjit and I could avail bail in March. When I came out of the jail, I realised that Jatinder was pressurising Sarabjit to marry him. I asked him to stay away from my wife,” Avtar said.
“To resolve this matter, we planned a meeting on Thursday. I along with my wife went to a park near Veer Palace to meet Jatinder. There, Jatinder said he wanted to talk to Sarabjit separately. When Jatinder and Sarabjit were talking, he started pressuring Sarabjit again to marry him. When Sarabjit refused, Jatinder brandished a knife and stabbed her multiple times in her chest, stomach, arms and face and fled the area. I rushed Sarabjit to a hospital where doctors declared her dead,” Avtar added.
The complainant said Jatinder had come there with a plan to kill Sarabjit. It was Jatinder who had fixed a plan to meet them at the park, Avtar said.
Sub-inspector Surjit Kumar, who is investigating the case, said, “The accused works as a labourer in a factory. The victim’s family only had his contact number and did not know anything about his family or address.”
An FIR under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC has been lodged against Jatinder Singh.
Focal Point police arrested Jatinder who said Sarabjit had cheated him by claiming that she was unmarried. In fact, she had told Jatinder that her brother is lodged in the jail and needs monetary help to secure his bail.
Inspector Amandeep Singh Brar said, “Jatinder confessed that when he came in Sarabjit's contact through social media, she had claimed that she was unmarried. Sarabjit and Jatinder had developed physical relations also. Jatinder wanted to marry her, however Sarabjit said at first she wanted her brother to come out of jail. At that time, Jatinder used to perform kirtan in gurdwaras. He got another job as a factory worker to help Sarabjit. Jatinder arranged Rs 1 lakh after which Avtar got bail in the theft case. After Avtar came out of the jail, Sarabjit started ignoring Jatinder. Later, Jatinder also found that Sarabjit was married to Avtar.”
“Jatinder wanted to take revenge and had called Sarabjit and Avtar to meet him over the issue and he stabbed her to death,” added Brar.
