Walmart Inc. is shuffling the leadership of its merchandising ranks, according to a document viewed by The Wall Street Journal, a shift at the country’s largest retailer as it works to navigate an unpredictable consumer landscape.

Charles Redfield, who became chief merchandising officer last year, will leave the role May 1 and stay on as an adviser, said John Furner, who leads Walmart’s U.S. operations, in a memo to staff Friday.
