LUCKNOW: Paying tribute to BR Ambedkar on his 132nd birth anniversary on Friday, chief minister Yogi Adityanath termed him as an "immortal luminary for the oppressed and the deprived people across the world".
The CM said that the BJP governments at the Centre and in Uttar Pradesh were ensuring that Ambedkar's vision was not only captured in slogans, but was also converted into reality by ensuring facilities for all without any bias.
"Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar has been the voice of every underprivileged person. Uplift of the downtrodden is no longer just a slogan but his dream is being realized on the ground under the leadership of Prime Minister
Narendra Modi," he said.
Highlighting Ambedkar's struggles, Yogi said, "Though he received education from one of the most prestigious institutes in the world, he was subjected to social evils which weaken the Indian society. However, he did not care about it and fought for the rights of the underprivileged."
The CM said that while the BJP was realising Ambedkar's dreams, others only did politics in his name. "The PM developed places associated with Ambedkar as pilgrimage sites, or Panchtirath, including Mhow, Delhi, Mumbai, the building in England where he stayed and Nagpur," he said.
"Giving free ration to 80 crore poor people without any discrimination, providing houses to the homeless, free electricity connections, benefits of Ujjwala Yojana and Ayushman Yojana and benefitting crores of people through the PM Swamitva Yojana became possible only under the Modi government," he said.
The CM added that there was a time when powerful people did not allow the poor to drink water even from government handpumps. "Now, under the Har Ghar Nal Yojana, over 1 crore tap water connections have been provided in the state," he said.
Emphasising on his government's work for the oppressed and every section which has been subjected to exploitation, Yogi said people were also talking about their constitutional duties along with their rights.
He announced that the construction of the Babasaheb Memorial and Cultural Centre is in its final stages. "The Ambedkar Mahasabha will soon have its own grand building, which will not be of stones but will be the centre of Babasaheb's thoughts and inspirations," he said.
