Ranchi: The fortnight-long ‘Jai Bharat Satyagraha Yatra’ of the state Congress which began on April 4 has so far traversed 19 districts and will conclude on April 16 with a formal ceremony at Dhurwa here, party officials announced on Thursday.
Addressing the media at the party office, former Union minister Subodh Kant Sahay and Congress’s co-working president Bandhu Tirkey said the 1950-km-long yatra is a protest march against the Narendra Modi government’s “sustained efforts to shield” its industrial friend (Adani) and against the disqualification of
Rahul Gandhi, who has been constantly posing questions against the PM.
Notably, the
Adani group is currently caught in a stock manipulation row for the last few months in the wake of the Hidenberg report. Congress, along with many other opposition parties, has been asking for a joint parliamentary probe but to no avail. While the grand old party has been holding various stirs nationally to press for their demand, it suffered a jolt after Rahul Gandhi was disqualified in a defamation case by a Gujarat court recently.
Sahay said, “Rahul Gandhi is being targeted by the Modi government because it is scared of him as he has been asking uncomfortable questions on Adani. Congress isn’t scared of any pressure politics by the Union government and will continue to fight at all levels.”
Lashing out at the Modi government, he said, “Around 12,000 industries got shut in this state in last few years since the Modi government came to power at the Centre but only one firm (Adani) has got richer nationally. Questions are bound to be raised.”
About the ongoing yatra, he said, “It will culminate at the old assembly building in Ranchi on April 16.” On Thursday, the yatra reached Giridih and Koderma districts. Jharkhand affairs in-charge Avinash Pande has stayed put in Jharkhand since the start of the yatra.
