Due to restrictions, only a few distant relatives and locals were granted entry to the burial site.
PRAYAGRAJ: The bodies of don Atiq Ahmed's son Mohd Asad and his aid and shooter Mohd Ghulam Hasan, who were killed in an encounter with UP STF on April 13 in Jhansi, reached Prayagraj on Saturday morning.
While Asad was laid to rest at a graveyard in Kasari Masari, his aid Ghulam was buried at a graveyard located at Mehendauri area in Prayagraj.
After the body of the two reached Prayagraj, Asad’s body was taken straight to the graveyard at Kasari Masari where heavy police along with RAF was already deployed. Entry inside the graveyard was restricted and media personnel were not allowed on the premises of this old graveyard.
All rituals related to last rites were performed at the graveyard itself. Very limited entry was allowed inside the graveyard and details of each individual was recorded in a register. While the process of burial was in progress, some locals tried to assemble at the entry lane of the graveyard but the local police dispersed them by appealing them to go back to their houses.
According to additional commissioner of police, Akash Kulhari, it was the decision of the family to directly bring the body of Asad to the Kasari Masari graveyard.
There were around 100 people who attended the burial of Asad including 8-10 male family members including his maternal grandfather, Haroon. Neither, Atiq Ahmad nor his wife Shaista Parveen, who is presently absconding, attended the last rites of their son.
Likewise, the body of Ghulam Hasad, Asad's associate and who was also killed in the encounter with UP STF on April 13, also reached Prayagraj and was buried at the graveyard located at Mehendauri in Prayagraj.
Earlier, on Friday, four family members of the gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed had reached Jhansi medical college to claim the body of Mohd Asad only. The body was supposed to arrive on Friday itself but completing formalities at the morgue led to the delay and the body reached Prayagraj on Saturday morning and was buried at Kasari Masari graveyard.
In view of the burial ceremony, Prayagraj police had made adequate security in old city areas like Kareli, Kasari Masari and Chakia and deployed additional police forces, including companies of RAF, to maintain law and order. The areas considered pocket boroughs of the don witnessed an eerie silence with small groups of men and women being spotted near the ancestral house of Atiq at Chakia. This house was razed by the administration in September last year for not following building norms.
