NOIDA: Four students of Amity University have been booked after a video of them beating another student was shared on social media on Friday.
According to the police, the complainant, Ankush Chaprana (21), is a resident of Kasna in Greater Noida and a student of BA (Political Science), 2nd year at the university. Chaprana stated that the argument started over sitting on a chair. Soon, it turned violent and the four students beat him up.
In the video, Chaprana is seen yelling at some students, who then started thrashing him and kicked him to the ground. A teacher intervened and the fight stopped for a while, but soon they again started beating him up and a larger group of boys with chairs in their hands was seen chasing him down the corridor.
According to cops, three of the accused are Manpreet Tanwar, Aryan Awana, a resident of Atta village in Sector 27 and Aditya Chaudhary from Delhi’s Brij Vihar. One of them is yet to be identified. All the suspects are aged 21 years old.
“The incident took place at around 3pm on Thursday. Chaprana filed a complaint at Sector 126 police station on Friday alleging that the students also abused him and threatened to kill him. We went to their residents but the boys are on the run. We are trying to identify the fourth accused. required action would be taken against them,” Rajneesh Verma, assistant commissioner of police-1, Noida, said.
Meanwhile, officials from the varsity said that five students have been suspended following the incident.
“Five students who were involved in the scuffle have been suspended and a proctorial inquiry has been launched to investigate the matter at university level,” said Savita Mehta, vice president- Communications, Amity Education Group.
