Mount Healthy closes school as police investigate 'serious situation'

Mount Healthy Junior/Senior High School closed Friday, following the fatal shooting of a student Sunday.

Following the fatal shooting of a student Sunday, Mount Healthy School District closed its junior/senior high school Friday.

The district issued a statement to parents Thursday: "A serious situation has arisen in our community. We take all safety matters seriously and have been working closely with law enforcement to ensure the safety of our students and staff."

The district said an active police investigation is happening, but has not said what prompted the closure

Dameon Hogan, 16, died Sunday, according to the Colerain Township Police Department. He was shot near the corner of Pippin Road and Strahli Drive, officers reported.

The district's statement did not say whether Friday's closure was connected to the shooting.
