VARANASI: The oldest city in the world is decking up to accord a grand, flowery welcome to the foreign delegates arriving here to take part in the G-20 events. The Yoi Adityanath government is leaving no stone unturned to change the appearance of the city ahead of the big event.
The crossings and roads are being decorated with more than 50 varieties of flowers imported from over six states to welcome the guests from 20 leading countries of the world.
The route through which the guests will pass have also been beautified with landscaping. The VIP route, NaMo Ghat, Trade Facility Center, Sarnath and the area around the airport are being decorated on a special theme. The flags of G-20 countries are being installed at major establishments. The special features identifying the G-20 countries will also be shaped into murals. The beautiful sites have become selfie points for the local natives.
The guests attending the G-20 meetings will get to enjoy the beautification of the city right from the time they leave the airport. Dinesh Maurya, a decorator, said, “More than 50 varieties of flowers from more than six states have been brought for the decoration. The surroundings and other vacant spots around the airport are being beautified with landscaping”.
The logo of the G-20 and the shape of the green dolphin at the Sant Atulanand intersection are catching the attention of the people. A vertical garden has been made on the Varuna bridge and topiaries of reindeer, giraffes and other animals and birds have been made at places around it.
Maurya said apart from Varanasi, flowers have been flown in from
Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, West Bengal, Gujarat, Delhi,
Agra and other places. The big flower pots have been placed on the routes while road dividers have been decorated with flowers.
A garden will be built on the theme of G-20 countries at the Trade Facility Center, where the special identity of the participating countries will be etched with flags of G-20 countries.
G20 events will be held in the city between April and August. An agriculture working group meeting will be held from April 17 to 19 while youth 20 summit engagement group-level meeting may take place from June 13 to 15.
Development working group meeting on August 16 and 17, ministerial level meeting on August 18 ad 19 and sustainable finance working group meeting is likely to be hosted on August 28 and 29.
