JAIPUR: The Rajasthan police were put on a high alert following intelligence inputs about the suspected movement of pro-Khalistan preacher Amritpal Singh in the state.
Sources said that searches were conducted in cities bordering Punjab, including in the Hanumangarh district. “It is a sensitive issue, so we will refrain from talking about it. Our teams are working, we have some input. But we do not wish to share it on the public domain unless we have something concrete,” DGP Umesh Mishra told reporters in Jaipur.
The sources in Rajasthan police, however, said that intensive checking was underway in multiple districts with a special focus on Hanumangarh district.“We had received input about the fugitive’s likely presence in Rajasthan. Therefore, search operations were undertaken. We can not share more details,” said an official.
Police said that they were trying to confirm if Singh indeed came to Rajasthan to dodge Punjab police. “Local police units on Wednesday night conducted an intensive search operation on suspected hideouts of the accused in Hanumangarh. We are also in communication with the Punjab police,” another official said.
Besides Hanumangarh, officials in Sriganganagar, Bikaner, and
Jaisalmer were also told to keep a guard. As per sources, senior officials have been monitoring the entire situation. The police intelligence wings are already involved in a major anti-narcotic operation with central agencies alongside the international border.
“We have also deployed specialized units for searches. We are also sifting through some information that we found during searches,” said the officer.
