New Volkswagen T-Cross facelift spotted for the first time

Volkswagen’s smallest SUV is getting a mid-life refresh this year

The T-Cross was launched in 2019 so a facelift seems just about right on cue in 2023. The small SUV and crossover segment is hugely competitive so expect exterior and interior tweaks to keep the T-Cross near the front of its class.

It’ll once again go up against the likes of the Citroen C3 Aircross, Renault Captur and Nissan Juke as well as the other similarly sized models within the Volkswagen Group such as the Seat Arona and Skoda Kamiq. There’s also a rival within the VW SUV range as of last year with the new Taigo. It’s based on a T-Cross but represents a more style-conscious alternative thanks to a more rakish roofline.

Our new spy shots reveal the T-Cross will gain a restyled front end with a new grille and lower bumper. The grille itself could be adapted to include a full-width daytime running light as seen on other VW models. The rear of the T-Cross will get similar treatment with new rear light clusters and an updated rear bumper.

The cabin of the T-Cross shouldn’t change its layout too much. We expect to see the 10.25-inch digital screen (or ‘Digital Cockpit Pro) for the driver come as standard and  in the middle of the dash an eight-inch touchscreen featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

With the T-Cross sitting on the same MQB A0 architecture as the Polo and Taigo, we shouldn’t expect any electrification of the its powertrains. VW will probably continue with a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol with 109bhp and a 1.5-litre petrol with 148bhp as the two options, having already axed the 1.6 TDI diesel alternative.

Pricing for the facelifted T-Cross won’t be out for a while yet but the current car starts from £22,220 and a small increase in price is expected with the updated model.
