Doctor robbed of 100 sovereigns of gold, Rs 20 in cash in TN’s Palani

MADURAI: A three-member gang robbed a doctor of 100 sovereigns of gold ornaments and Rs 20 lakh in cash in Palani in Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu in the early hours of Friday.
The victim has been identified as Udhayakumar who is working as the chief doctor in Palani Government Hospital. Udhayakumar’s wife had gone to Chennai to see their daughter who is studying medicine there.
Udhayakumar returned from the hospital and was sleeping in his house in Anna Nagar in Palani town. The gang gained entry into the house and woke Udhayakumar up. When he tried to raise an alarm, the gang attacked him. He suffered an injury on his hand. They tied him up and escaped with the valuables.
After they left the house, the doctor raised an alarm. Neighbours, who heard his screams, rushed to his aid. He was taken to Palani Government Hospital. The Palani town police were informed.
