MC teams detect defects in handling of market parking lots
Ludhiana: MC joint commissioner Kulpreet Singh conducted a surprise inspection at parking lots in Feroze Gandhi market on Thursday. During the inspection, MC teams found a number of anomalies at the site, including absence of parking rate charts/boards and vehicles being parked outside the parking area.
Other irregularities included absence of ID cards and uniform with the parking contractor’s staff. The MC teams also found that the parking contractor had allowed installation of street food vends/carts inside the parking lots, which reduced parking space. The MC teams confiscated over a dozen vends/carts from the spot.
Joint commissioner Kulpreet Singh said the civic body had received a lot of complaints from the parking lot and the surprise inspection was conducted on the directions of MC commissioner Dr Shena Aggarwal. As per the parking contract signed, the contractor had to install parking rate charts/boards at different points of the parking lot so that the public should be aware of the parking rates and there should be no overcharging.
Though the staff of the contractor was issuing receipts through e-ticketing machines and no complaint of overcharging was received on the spot, the contractor has been directed to install rate charts/boards in the parking lots. Further he has also been directed to ensure that staff should wear proper uniform and carry ID cards. tnn
