'World Art Day' event will highlight Beaumont's artistic side

“We try to showcase that art is more than just what’s on the paper or on the sculpture. It’s the creative side. It’s also showcasing the people who get up on stage… We do lots of different things to be able to showcase art as a whole,” said Amanda Yarborough, executive director of Beaumont Children’s Museum. “Art is also a great way to release stress and take time to just have fun and be in the moment, with your family and friends and the people around you.”

Children will have a chance to put together an original or replica piece of art, whether they’re painting, drawing or singing.

The museum, located at 701 Main St. in downtown Beaumont, coordinates with The Art Studio Inc. to help showcase local artists’ work. Yarborough said it’s the first time World Art Day is taking place on a Saturday, but the museum has engaged in similar events over the past few years.

Whether it's seeing your child singing or dancing on stage, or simply taking in neat painting on display, Yarborough is quick to envision happiness for the day. 

“You’re smiling, you’re laughing, you’re gleaming with joy. (Art) is a way to be able to create a stress-free environment… to be able to provide a gathering point, bringing families together, communities together, bringing cultures together… and for Beaumont, that is important,” Yarborough said, adding things like the downtown murals help reinforce that local connection. “All these things are putting joy in your heart, in some way or another.”

Admission is $6, but those with SNAP benefits can get in for $1.
