Jamshedpur: Road-widening work of the inner circle road near the trouble-hit Shastrinagar area is on, after over 50 illegal shops and shanties were pulled down by the district administration and the Tata Steel Utilities and Infrastructure Limited (TSUISL) on Monday.
The 3km-long stretch is part of a four-lane way, barring the 700mt stretch near Block 2 and Block 3 at Shastrinagar. The road could not be widened here due to large-scale encroachment on both sides of the road, where clashes had broken out between two groups on Sunday.
Under the vigil of deputy commissioner (DC) Vijaya Jadhav, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Prabhat Kumar, and TSUISL general manager Capt Dhananjay Mishra, the illegal shops were pulled down by bulldozers.
The DC expressed satisfaction over the progress of the work. Terming the area residents as peace-loving citizens, she said the widened road would ensure smooth vehicular movement.
Officials were confident that the work would be completed before the weekend.
Welcoming the move, Rajiv Singh complained about traffic in the morning and afternoon hours as many schools are located in the neighbourhood. Now, the problem is likely to ease, he stated.
