Prosecutors charged Massachusetts Air National Guardsman Jack Teixeira on Friday with unlawfully taking and sharing a trove of highly classified intelligence documents in a security breach that has exposed significant vulnerabilities in the way the U.S. retains some of its most closely held secrets.
The Justice Department, in a brief hearing in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, charged Mr. Teixeira, 21, with unauthorized retention and transmission of national defense information and unauthorized removal and retention of classified documents or material.
