According to the latest Android distribution chart released by Google, over 12% of phones and tablets are running Android 13. Comparing this with its predecessor, Android 12, which showed up in the distribution chart nearly a year after its release, enjoys only a 13.3% adoption rate. All in all, the Android 13 adoption rate has outpaced the adoption rate of the previous versions of Android.

The question is, who should be thanked for this? Well, the answer is Samsung. Notably, Samsung’s dedication to providing the latest Android updates to its devices has helped Android 13 achieve this high adoption rate. The rollout of Android 13 and One UI 5.0 clearly showed that Samsung is the king in this department and has more devices running Android 13 than any other brand.

Just to give you some numbers, even before December 2022 started, over 40 Galaxy devices were running Android 13. Also, thanks to the massive market share that Samsung holds in the smartphone market, timely updates to all devices, including affordable phones, have made it possible for Android 13 to enjoy an over 12% adoption rate. The Android 13 adoption rate in January 2023 stood at 5%. So, the numbers have just doubled thanks to the aforementioned factors.

Well, as noted by 9To5Google, apart from Samsung, brands like Google, OnePlus, OPPO, and Realme have also played their part in this speedy Android 13 adoption. Interestingly, 2020’s Android 11 still holds the maximum market share at 23.5% of the total. This is well ahead of the combined market share of Android 12 and Android 12L (16.5%).
