LUCKNOW:
Gangster Atiq Ahmed has confessed to his involvement in Umesh Pal murder and stated that the
conspiracy to commit the crime was hatched when he was in Sabarmati jail, says the police remand note put up before the chief judicial magistrate, Allahabad court, on Thursday.
The note says that Atiq has stated that he had asked his wife Shaista to arrange for a SIM card and a mobile phone. Since he and his brother Ashraf were in jail, all details regarding cash, weapons and
men involved in the operation to kill Pal were passed on to Shaista and Asad, Atiq has told the police according to the remand note, suggesting that the
conspiracy to kill Pal was hatched by him inside the Sabarmati jail.
In the remand application, the police said that Atiq has also told his interrogators that he has a huge cache of arms and ammunition because of his connections with Pakistan-based ISI and LeT.
Meanwhile, a team of Lucknow ATS reached Prayagraj on Friday to verify the statements of Atiq in relation to ISI and LeT. A senior ATS official said that the team headed by a DSP-rank officer reached Prayagraj and began sustained interrogation of Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf separately.
