The Pune city police have arrested a labourer for allegedly strangling his 27-year-old bedridden son at their house in the Hadapsar area Thursday afternoon. The son, also a labourer, was bedridden for the last six months, said the police.
The police identified the accused as Baburao Dinkar Jaybhay, 50, a resident of Ketkeshwar Colony at Kalepadal, and the victim as Abhijit.
Jaybhay’s wife, Sunita, 45, complained to the Hadapsar police after her son was killed. In the complaint, Sunita said that Abhijit suffered an injury on his head in a mishap six months ago. Since then, he had been bedridden, unable to do any work.
As per the complaint, the father was upset that Abhijit’s medical expenses were mounting. So he strangled Abhijit to death around 12.30 pm on Thursday, she told the police.
After knowing about the incident, senior police officers and a team from Hadapsar police station rushed to the spot for investigation.
“We have arrested the accused based on the complaint filed by the victim’s mother, who works as a housemaid. It is known that the accused was a liquor addict. An investigation is on to confirm why he murdered his own son,” said senior police inspector Arvind Gokule of the Hadapsar police station.
