Snapchat dark mode may cost $4 on your Samsung Android phone

Dark mode is often one of the most highly requested features for apps. It’s hard to imagine that any popular social media app won’t have it. You can find the feature on major apps like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, etc but not on Snapchat.

There has been a long wait for Snapchat dark mode on Android but it’s not available as yet. However, there are signs that it may be launched soon, but it seems that you’ll need to pay $4 to use the feature on your Samsung phone.

Snapchat dark mode for Android will cost your $4 per month

Alessandro Paluzzi has dug up the three dark mode options that will likely be offered to Android users. These options will be accessible through the App appearance menu. It’s expected this feature will initially be made available to Snapchat+ subscribers only.

It seems absurd that a basic feature like dark mode would be hidden behind a $4 paywall but that seems to be the direction that Snapchat is taking. It launched a new monthly subscription service called Snapchat+ in 2022 that costs $3.99 per month and provides subscribers with access to new features.

Think of it as a members’ club of sorts where subscribers are given access to new features before they arrive for everyone else. So it’s entirely possible that Snapchat dark mode for Android could be available for free eventually. It may not happen for at least the first few months when it will only be accessible to Snapchat+ subscribers.

There’s no word as yet when the dark mode will go live for subscribers. This leak suggests that it may happen sooner rather than later. It remains to be seen how long you’d have to wait if you want to use the feature on your Samsung Android phone without paying $4 per month. As if that’s not enough disrespect, you’d not be happy to know that dark mode has been available on Snapchat for iOS since long and that too for free.
