Salem govt hospital gets spl Covid ward

Salem: The district administration has set up a Covid-19 special ward with 500 beds at the Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital. An additional 500 beds were also set up at a Covid care centre on the Salem Steel Plant (SSP) premises.
Collector S Karmegam said the number of beds can be increased in case of a need. “Thirteen government hospitals, 64 private hospitals, 23 upgraded government primary health centres and special Covid-19 care centres are ready to treat Covid patients in the event of a spike in cases in the district.”
He said the care centre at the Salem Steel Plant was set up at a cost of 4 crore using the contribution from the public.
