He said AIIMS Guwahati will have a 24x7 trauma team ready to receive emergency cases.
"Most of the clinical departments are functional. Average OPD footfall at AIIMS Guwahati is around 150 patients per day at present. Services available include day care, pharmacy (Amrit Pharmacy), laboratory facilities and radiological investigations," said Puranik at a news conference here on Wednesday.
He added, "We are taking baby steps with 150 beds from April 14. The bigger plan is to make it a 750-bed hospital in years to come, to render best healthcare services to the people of Assam, neighbouring northeastern states and the entire country."
Among clinical services, he said the state-of-the-art hospital will have several speciality and super speciality departments - cardiology, neurology, burns and plastic surgery, cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, interventional radiology amongst others.
Future plans stated the institute will also provide best available cancer care, advanced laparoscopy facilities, trauma care and advanced futuristic interventions like robotic surgery, organ transplantation, regenerative medicine, genetics and simulation lab.
Located in Changsari on the outskirts of the city in Kamrup district, the total plot area of the newly built institute is 189.20 acres. Construction commenced from May 2. Patient-care services at the institute started via telemedicine from August last year, whereas the limited out-patient department (OPD) for local residents started from September 2022.
Currently, there are 199 MBBS students in the institute, 78 faculty members, 125 nursing officers and 12 senior residents in the institute.
