Ranchi: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has allotted Rs 1 crore to the health and water supply branch to mitigate water scarcity during the Summer season under the ‘Har Ghar Jal Yojna’, stated mayor Asha Lakra during a review meeting on Wednesday.
Lakra said, “The RMC is prepared to address the issue of water shortage. Eight teams responsible for repairing broken hand pumps, high yield drilled tubewell (HYDT), mini HYDT, and pipelines have been formed.”
However, the number of broken items were not revealed during the meeting.
At present, 2,507 hand pumps, 174 HYDTs, and 1,374 mini HYDTs, are installed.
The residents of 80 locations, especially those living in arid zones, receive water through 40 tankers.
A total of 159 mini HYDTs and 204 borings will be installed in 53 wards.
Speaking to TOI, deputy mayor Sanjeev Vijaywargiya on Wednesday said, “Each year, we increase the number of mini HYDT or HYDT to assist communities with ground-water conservation steps. The mini HYDT helps towards sustainable management of groundwater resources.”
“The RMC will set up three micro HYDTs in each of the 53 wards. Also, water tanks will be consctructed,” he added. Rashim Choudhary, the ward councillor of Harmu, said, “The HYDT form of public bore well assists individuals in obtaining water for daily use. Water level decreases during the Summer season, but the bore wells never go dry, making it the only source of water for the middle class people.” Around 69,078 families have water connections.
