Shivamogga sees 191 fresh Covid-19 cases in 7 days
Mysuru: Shivamogga has recorded 191 new cases of Covid-19 in the last seven days, until April 10, with the number of active cases in the district shooting up to 165 – the second highest in the state after Bengaluru -- according to a report released by the state’s Covid war room.
The good news is that no deaths were reported during this period. While Bengaluru Urban reported the highest number of cases at 843, the caseload for the entire state stood at 1,551.
Official data also revealed that with 63 new cases, Ballari district was in the third position in terms of number of positive cases. During the same period, Mysuru recorded 53 cases.
Authorities said they were contemplating several measures, including mandatory wearing of masks in health facilities etc, to bring down the caseload.
Officials said in Shivamogga district, more cases are being reported from the rural areas. According to war room data, in the last 14 days, just 20 active cases were reported from the urban areas of the district, while the rural areas of Shivamogga registered 145 cases.
Dr Rajesh Suragihalli, the Shivamogga district health officer, said there were no cluster cases in the district. All the positive cases were scattered cases reported in the rural areas, he added. “While 350 tests is the daily target for the district, we have been carrying out 800 to 900 tests on an average,” Dr Suragihalli said, adding that the positivity rate is below 5% and has actually declined in the district.
He further said that among the active Covid-19 cases, only five patients were in hospital and that too owing to non-Covid reasons. “The rest are all doing fine, as testing, treating and tracking are under way,” he said.
Dr Suragihalli cited evening social events in the villages, such as car festivals and temple fairs as the reason behind a sudden spurt in positive cases in the district. “We are requesting people to follow Covid-appropriate behaviour in order to ensure the infection does not spread,” Dr Suragihalli added.
