Christie's to Sell Biggest Ever JAR Collection

April 13, 23 by John Jeffay

(IDEX Online) - Christie's Geneva is to auction the largest ever collection of creations by JAR, the fine jewelers founded by Joel Arthur Rosenthal.

Twenty-five pieces, produced over 40 years, will be offered for sale at the Magnificent Jewels auction on 17 May.

JAR's trademark is to pair unusual gemstones with non-traditional materials, drawing on nature for inspiration and pushing the boundaries between jewelry and sculpture.

The collection being sold was acquired over 15 years by an anonymous collector, from the 70 or so items Paris-based JAR produces annually.

JAR's signature piece, a diamond, tourmaline and agate camelia brooch, is being offered with a $337,000 to $449,000 estimate.
