Hello!
I am posting for the first time on Team-BHP regarding a small but irritating issue that I have noticed on the Mahindra XUV7OO.
We had a Skoda Rapid as a daily driver but the car had covered 1.3L km in 10 years, so we started searching for a new SUV with a budget of 30-40 lakhs. We test-drove a few cars namely:
After detailed research of all the vehicles we zeroed in on the Compass and the XUV7OO, the latter is no doubt the most value-for-money car in the price bracket I mentioned. But, there was one issue with the car which hardly anyone has pointed out on the internet i.e. the problem of ingress for taller passengers in the front row of seats (For some context, I and my dad are 6 feet tall). Every time we tried to sit in the front row of seats our heads banged against the A-Pillar, we tried every possible adjustment on the otherwise very comfortable seats, we moved the seat completely backward and set it to the least height but the problem was still persistent. We still had hopes as a side step would somewhat eradicate the problem but then came the waiting period of one year, this was just not ideal for us and we decided to move on. Later, we booked the Jeep Compass Model S 4x4 AT in the devilish Black colour, we were given the delivery of the vehicle within 2 weeks! I will be posting another detailed thread regarding the car-buying process and the options that we considered. Also, has anyone else experienced the same issue with the 7OO?
Thank you for reading.
Here's what BHPian niranjan.mulye had to say on the matter:
Yes, the issue is pretty much there for tall passengers.
My brother who is almost 6 feet tall struggles to get in the front row seats. A certain angle of bending and flexibility is required to get in and out.
If this issue is a deal breaker for you, take a look at the facelift Harrier and Safari twins.
Here's what BHPian Sommos had to say on the matter:
Well Sir, I am six foot tall and I have never faced any ingress or egress issues in my brief ownership of 8 months.
Getting in and out of the XUV700 is a breeze given its high roof and the lower floor (compared to traditional body-on-frame SUVs)
I do, however, face a problem every time at the passenger side of the front row. I feel that the lack of height adjustment on the passenger side is the reason for this.
Here's what BHPian jampot had to say on the matter:
You are absolutely right. Hardly anyone pointed out this ingress problem, although many reviews complained about the lack of headroom. I was perhaps the first to mention it in this thread in my recent post. In fact, this was one reason (apart from the long waiting) that I decided not to book it a year back.
I gave 7OO a second look only after I observed the Toyota Hycross in person. I faced a very similar problem there, albeit to a lesser extent since the driver's seat in HyCross is slightly more inside and lower.
I assume that the lack of complaints on this issue means it is a matter of getting used to the vehicle.
