40 foresters deployed to contain wildfire

Coimbatore: Forty forest department personnel have been deployed to put out a fire on the hill near Alandurai in Madukkarai forest range.
The fire was detected on Tuesday in a grass patch, a forest department official said. “Out of the 150-hectare grass patch, 50 hectares were destroyed. The fire was spreading down the hill, where dried bamboo patches and green tree patches were present. The rocky portion is inaccessible as it is steep. The team is trying to prevent spread in the downhill and on the top, and trying to access the area,” he said.TNN
