Salem: At least 19 government school students from Salem, Namakkal, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts have been selected for an education tour abroad.
Education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi had allocated Rs3 crore in the 2022-23
budget to take the government school students on education tours in foreign countries. “We have selected 19 students from Salem region for the foreign tour,” education department officials said.
They said the students were selected based on their individual talents.
“Three students from every government school in the state were first selected to participate in a block-level event. The winners were then selected for the district-level event. Students shortlisted at that event were selected for the state-level workshop. From Salem region, 19 students made it to the state-level workshop,” an official with the Salem district education department said.
According to him, 150 students and 30 teachers from across the state have been selected for the tour, the expenses of which would be borne by the government.
The education department officials said they were taking steps to get passports for the students.
