Woman loses Rs 6.4 lakh to part-time job scam in Nashik

NASHIK: A woman fell victim to an online scam offering part-time jobs and lost Rs 6.4 lakh. According to the cyber cell police, the woman was asked to pay a fee for the onboarding procedure and once completed it would help her get a high-paying part-time job.
The woman joined the “Make money simple” group on a social media platform on February 4. The woman inquired about the process, after which she was given detailed information that would help her land a part-time job that paid well.
Other members were also part of the group and upon inquiry the woman got positive feedbacks, saying many had received good returns through the part-time jobs.
The woman later got in touch with the conman, who owned the social networking site, and she was asked to deposit the money in installments to various bank accounts.
The complainant waited till February 24 and till then she had already paid Rs 6.4 lakh to the suspect. However, she did not get any reply or job offer. She then contacted the suspect and asked him to return the money. When the conman failed to return the money, the woman decided to lodge a complaint with the cyber police station.
While talking about the case, a police officer said, “Details about the these accounts and its linkage with the suspect will be found during the course of investigation,” the police officer said.
The police have also appealed to the people to not believe in promises on the internet and refrain from taking any steps that could cause them financial loses.
