Kamhariya ghat bridge reduces distance from Prayagraj to Gorakhpur
Prayagraj: With the opening of Kamhariya ghat bridge, located on the border of Gorakhpur and Ambedkar Nagar district on river Ghaghra, the journey from Prayagraj to Gorakhpur will be more comfortable now.
Not only has the distance between two cities has reduced by 33 kilometers (kms), the fare of buses operated by UPSRTC too has come down.
However, the flight between the two cities has been discontinued for lack of passengers. Although the flight operators have not made it clear as to when the booking will restart on the route, the booking from Wednesday has been put on hold by IndiGo.
The UP State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has started operating Prayagraj to Gorakhpur bus via Kamhariya ghat bridge. Buses have started plying from Prayagraj to Kamhariya ghat-Sikriganj-Gorakhpur route. The distance of 288 km to Gorakhpur used to take nine hours. While the fare was Rs 403. The distance to reach Gorakhpur through the new route has now reduced by 33 km, due to which the fare too has decreased and is now only Rs 340.
This bus for Gorakhpur leaves Civil Lines bus depot at 9 pm and from Gorakhpur the bus leaves at 11 am.
According to Regional Manager (RM), UPSRTC, Prayagraj division, MK Trivedi, “The residents of Prayagraj and Gorakhpur are benefiting from the operation of the bus on the new route”. However, the flight from Prayagraj to Gorakhpur has been suspended indefinitely as the airline has not taken bookings on April 12 and beyond. It is possible that operations may start after the summer schedule.
Sources inform that the flight operations from Prayagraj to Gorakhpur was running in loss. The dwindling number of passengers could also be a reason for the airline to stop operation on this route. The situation was such that around 80% of the seats remained vacant.
